A Slice Of Humble Pie... And A Brownie
April 13, 2009
I’ve always been a complete snob about cakes from a box. They have a processed, cardboard undertone and never taste anywhere near as good as real home baking. So imagine my surprise when, this weekend, not only did I make brownies from a box, but I actually thought they tasted delicious.
The only reason I bought them in the first place was because a woman at Trader Joe’s recommended them and so I felt obliged to put them in my cart (I once ended up with a scooter for the same reason!) Then on Saturday, with an Easter-induced chocolate craving but very little time, I decided to give them a go. Boy, are they good. Made with Dutch cocoa, they are rich and chocolatey with big chocolate chunks and a perfectly sticky, gooey texture.
So while you run off to to buy a box of Trader Joe’s Truffle Brownie Mix, I’m going to sit here enjoying a nice cup of coffee, a delicious chocolate brownie, and a slice of humble pie.
